Prize Fight's Davis/Guerrero Make TV Debut! (4/7/08)
LIVE ON ESPN, APRIL 9!
Memphis-TN- Monday, April 7, 2008-This Wednesday at the Bell
Auditorium in Augusta, Georgia, the exciting young talent under
the Prize Fight Boxing banner will kick off the new season of
ESPN's Wednesday Night Fights, and they are sure to thrill fight
fans from the first ding to the last dong. “I think from
top to bottom this is a very strong card,” says Prize Fight's
own Russ Young. “Wednesday night's card shows that Prize
Fight continues to put on great shows and quality fights. Fans
should know that they will get equally matched fights and overwhelming
value on their dollar.”
Starting with the main event, which has Augusta's own UNDEFEATED
Rayonta “The Stingray” Whitfield (20-0, 10 KO's)
going up against tough Mexican Manuel Vargas (24-2, 10 KO's)
hailing from Mexico City, in a 12-round IBF/WBO flyweight title
eliminator is a fight made for television.
Many fighters on Wednesday
night's card will put their undefeated record on the line to
prove they are one to be reckoned with in their division. Whitfield
is on a hot streak, stopping two of his last three opponents
before the second round ended, and he will be going up against
a rugged veteran in Vargas, who is on a 21-fight win streak.
Sparks are certain to fly in the ring once these two warriors
make contact with each other.
On the undercard, the much-talked-about and electrifying knockout
artist Dominican, Fernando Guerrero (4-0, 4KO's) will go up against
Valentino Jalomo (2-2-1) from Amarillo, TX, in a four-round middleweight
match-up. Guerrero, who has been sparring with former welterweight
champ Paul Williams, will make his ESPN television debut in only
his fifth professional fight.

For Fernando to be fighting on TV this early in his career is
huge,” says Hal Chernoff, Guerrero's mentor and manager. “We
are beyond thrilled for the opportunity to show the nation and
his hometown crowd what he is capable of doing."
Guerrero has blitzed through every single one of his opponents
like a hot knife through butter, and will undoubtedly awe audiences
watching on TV and live at the Bell.

Guerrero. “I have great respect for Teddy Atlas and Joe
Tessitore, and to have them call my first ever TV fight is a
dream come true. I am honored. I look forward to coming out and
winning in spectacular fashion, and I dedicate this fight to
my hometown fans."
Also placing his UNDEFEATED record on the line is the young junior
lightweight sensation Cleveland, OH's Mark Davis (5-0, 3 KO's)
going up against Sadot Vazquez (3-1, 1 KO) out of Fort Worth,
TX. “Davis has a tremendous amateur background,” says
Young. “This should be a great fight.” 2008 has already
been a busy year for Davis, fighting twice in the past two months,
stopping his opponents in the first and second round. However,
Vazquez is used to taking on undefeated opponents, and he is
accustomed to taking their “O's” out of the ring
with him. Three times, Vazquez has tarnished the record of an
undefeated fighter, and he plans to do the same against Davis
on Wednesday.
Two additional fights on the card will pin undefeated versus
undefeated where someone's “O” has to go. In a six
round lightweight battle, Crossville, TN favorite Chris Howard
(5-0, 2 KO's) will face Texan Anthony Smith 3-0 (1 KO), while
Demarcus Young (2-0, 2 KO's), the promising cruiserweight prospect
who shares his birthplace of Aiken, South Carolina with former
147-pound champ Paul Williams will be taking on Mark Johnson
(1-0) from Columbia SC in a four round slugfest to open the show.
You do not want to miss this exciting evening of boxing entertainment,
for this will be the fight event that will have people talking
days after the final bell sounds.
