Olive Branch, MS – Terry
Porter cruised to a unanimous eight-round decision over Lloyd “Jabba” Bryan
in their Main Event Cruiserweight bout on Saturday night from the
Knox Arena. Knockout Promotions promoted the show.
The first round was a feel out round for both fighters. During
the second round, Porter began using his jab to set up his left.
He was able to land his left effectively to the head of Lloyd Bryan,
who seemed to have a very hard time keeping his balance.
During rounds three, four and five, Terry Porter battered Lloyd
Bryan to the head and body seemly at will. Bryan was stumbling
around the ring trying to maintain his balance while throwing punches
that were just not landing.
The final three rounds all went the same way. Porter was able to
use his jab to set up his left hand. He was able to throw multi-punch
combinations to pound on Bryan. Lloyd’s timing was way off
and his unstable legs made it impossible to defend himself, let
alone make any attempt at stopping or even slowing down Porter’s
attack.
All three judges at ringside saw the fight at 79-73 in favor of
Terry Porter. TheDailySports.com scored the fight 80-72 also in
favor of Terry Porter. With his victory, Porter has earned the
right to fight Kenny “The Raven” Craven for the vacant
NAMA Cruiserweight Title in September.
Lloyd Bryan drops to 22-17 (10 KO) and should consider retirement.
He did not display the ability to continue boxing on a professional
level.
In the co-featured bout, Joe “Bazooka” Linenfelser
used his superior hand speed and overall talent to stop Jonathon
Bruce in the third round of their scheduled six round Middleweight
contest.
Linenfelser used an effective jab throughout the fight. He was
able to land it flush on the face of Bruce, which at times seemed
to freeze the journeyman fighter. After five or six solid jabs
to the face, Bazooka landed a solid right to floor Jonathan Bruce
during the second round. He was up quickly but was dropped again
by a right that landed on the top of his head. Jonathan somehow
survived the second round but at the close of the round, went to
his corner obviously in trouble.
Joe Linenfelser began the third round coming right after the still
hurt Jonathan Bruce. A left-right-left-right combination to the
head of Bruce put him down again. He was up right at the count
of ten and was allowed to continue by referee Randy Phillips. Seconds
later a crushing right sent Bruce down, face first, onto the canvas.
This time he was counted out. The official time of the KO was at
2:43 of the third round. Joe “Bazooka” Linenfelser
improves to 5-0 (5 KOs) while Jonathan Bruce drops to 1-9 (1 KO).
On the under card, Rohan Nanton won a unanimous four-round decision
over Tyrone Dowdy in a Middleweight bout. Nanton used a snappy
jab and a powerful uppercut to control the bout. All three judges
at ringside scored the fight 39-37 in favor of Nanton. TheDailySports.com
also scored the fight for Nanton with the same score.
In Heavyweight action, Chuck Dillard and Leroy Hollis fought a
very entertaining six round bout.
During the first two rounds, both fighters threw lots of punches.
Dillard was working the body of Hollis by throwing hard shots in
flurries, while Hollis was able to land effective headshots. By
the time the bell sounded to end the third round, both combatants
were breathing hard, but still had been standing toe to toe letting
their hands go.
During the fourth round, Hollis purposely slammed Dillard’s
head into the ring post, resulting in referee Randy Phillips to
immediately take a point away. The sixth and final round had both
fighters go all out from start to finish. All in all this was a
very action packed fight, which drew much excitement from the crowd.
All three judges at ringside scored the fight 59-53 in favor of
Chuck Dillard giving him the unanimous decision win. TheDailySports.com
also scored the fight 59-53 in favor of Dillard. Chuck Dillard
improves to 4-2 (1 KO) while Leroy Hollis drops to 3-11 (1 KO).
